The ultimate aim of higher education is to contribute to the development and empowerment of a society in a sustainable manner. Therefore higher education institutions can no longer remain isolated from the rest of the society but have to accommodate changing needs. In addition to the traditional role of research and research based teaching, the higher education institutions have to be of service to society.
